Shhhh... it's begun

Quietly I've begun Hal's half-marathon training program. This began in the past week, on Tuesday officially, shortly before my blogpost admitting my MIAness. I had meant to follow up and mark the start (and never got around to it).

Actually, it began nicely, with a family run on a very balmy day after work. My sister, my cousin, and I met up for a 5K run. It was the furthest my sister has run (her previous best was 2mi). We pushed her a little bit, but she made it through a run 9-min-walk-1-min pattern, and 37 minutes later, we were done. (I'm very proud of her. She's gonna kick butt at the 10K race in May!) I ran the next day, another 5K, around my neighborhood. Skipped the Thursday workout and then got another 5K in (on a treadmill) before going to see Yao play against my Raptors (not a good game if you are a Raps fan). Wasted much of Saturday kicking around the house and thinking it would be a good idea to run but never actually executing.

But I reluctantly made myself go out today. Because the long run is important. Skip one of the shorter ones during the week, yes, but never the long one. Around 5:30pm, after all my errands were done (the most important one being the printing of the wedding invitations...now for the assembly), I bundled up and went out for a fight-against-the-wind 4 miler.

It totally feels like when I started training last year. The hardest part is getting out the door. Because although it was more windy than I cared for it to be, and it was still a bit nippy, and I couldn't find my hat, I really enjoyed myself once I got going.

Awesome on starting the plan! Which half are you running again?

Getting out the door is the hardest part... so easy to forget how good you feel after running when you're sittig on the couch!!

Technically, this training is for the Ottawa half in May. I'm not signed up yet, and I'm actually undecided about making the trip, but I'm going to do the work in case I decide at the very very last minute to go!
