Rat Race

"A Rat Race is a term used for an endless, self-defeating or pointless pursuit. It conjures up the image of the futile efforts of a lab rat trying to escape whilst running around a maze or in a wheel. In an analogy of the modern city; many rats in a single maze running around making a lots of noise bumping into each other, but ultimately achieving nothing either collectively or individually."
Says Wikipedia.

On the way to Betty's, I was held up by the Rat Race; not the futile effort (though it feels like that Monday thru Friday from 8-4 coincidentally), but the annual 5K charity dash through the financial district. Participants are encouraged to dress in crazy costumes, paint their faces, wear rat ears in the name of raising money for the United Way. It's too bad I wasn't paying attention that this was happening because I think it'd be fun. Maybe next year we'll form a rat pack.
