CMan often asks me why I pay to run in races. It's a good question -- considering I'm there merely to see if I can go the distance. From the outset, I've only ever said that I want to complete the marathon, so I'm not looking to finish under a certain time.
But there are others out there that want to run particular races so much that they'll make fake bibs or pay huge dollars for somebody else's bib. Check out the NYTimes story saying so (special thanks to Frankie who outpointed it to me).
I can't imagine ever wanting to run a race that badly that I can't do it legitimately. Boy, I feel lucky to have signed up for Chicago back in January. Race day is almost here!
